MIGHTY Warriors head coach Sithethelelwe Sibanda has heaped praise on Ruvimbo Mucherera who has joined a new club in Poland after leaving Israeli side, Maccabi Haddera.

Mucherera, who was born in the United States of America (USA) to Zimbabwean parents, has signed with Energa Stomilanki Olsztyn, which plays in the Polish top-flight women’s league.

The club announced the Zimbabwe international’s arrival in a post on Facebook.

“Ruvimbo Mucherera is a footballer of Stomilanek after signing a contract with our club. Our new player recently played in the colours of clubs such as Maccabi Haddera (Israel), SF Damiense (Portugal), San Diego Wave (USA), Kups (Finland), Gintra (Lithuania), Shelbourne (Ireland),” said Olsztyn.

Sibanda said it was pleasing to see one of the Zimbabwe senior national team players continuing to get recognition in foreign lands.

“Seeing players getting teams in foreign countries is big news for us. We want to have more players getting deals in foreign lands as I think that will solidify our national team because we still have an amateur league that cannot adequately help our players develop their skills in an ideal way. Foreign leagues’ exposure to our players can always positively impact the performance of the national team,” said Sibanda, a former Mighty Warriors and New Orleans midfielder.

Mucherera’s move comes after making her international debut with the Mighty Warriors in the Women’s Afcon Qualifiers against Angola last month.

The Zimbabwe women’s national football team crashed out of the Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifiers after a penalty shootout heartbreak against Angola in a first-round second leg match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa.

Asked about Mucherera’s performance in the two games, Sibanda said: “I would say she proved to be a good player. She adapted well as it was her first time to play in Africa. We hope she will continue to adjust to African football demands. At some point we noticed that she was continuously getting frustrated by the referees.

“After getting time to thoroughly work on our player combinations, I have no doubt Mucherera will again come up well and deliver for the nation. It’s a process and that can be achieved.”
