La Liga keen on development projects in Zimbabwe

REPRESENTATIVES of Spain’s Premier Division, La Liga in Africa have shown interest in partnering the Zimbabwe Football Association in development projects the country.

In a meeting between the Zifa delegation led by president Felton Kamambo and La Liga Africa agents headed by Antonio Barracks in Johannesburg, South Africa last Friday those standing in for Spain’s top league were keen on a co-operation with the local football mother body.

Zifa communications and competitions manager Xolisani Gwesela said an agreement was made with the La Liga representatives to reinforce areas of working together.

“During our visit to South Africa for benchmarking and capacity building, we had an opportunity to meet La Liga Africa representatives and we agreed to strengthen areas of co-operation in football development,’’ Gwesela said.

According to the Zifa spokesperson, the La Liga representatives in the continent praised the Kamambo-led committee for the course they were taking with regards to improving the game in the country.

“La Liga also eulogised the new Zifa executive committee for the positive direction they were taking in developing football in Zimbabwe. La Liga are more interested in grassroots programmes and would also help Zifa in all technical aspects of the game,” Gwesela said.

Meanwhile, the Zifa delegation returned home yesterday having spent some days in South Africa. While in the neighbouring country, they also met the South African Football Association leadership.
