Nonkanyiso Conco, popularly known as LaConco, is taking her career to new heights. The former Real Housewives of Durban star, TV presenter, and podcaster has stepped into the world of voice acting and is set to be heard by children across Africa.
She has taken on the role of Chilli, the mom, in the isiZulu-dubbed version of the award-winning BBC CBeebies animated series, Bluey.

She has taken on the role of Chilli, the mom, in the isiZulu-dubbed version of the award-winning BBC CBeebies animated series, Bluey.
BBC Studios announced that the beloved show, which has won both Emmy and BAFTA awards, is now available in four of the continent’s most widely spoken languages: isiZulu, Afrikaans, Swahili, and Nigerian Pidgin. This move marks a major milestone for African representation in global children’s entertainment.
For those who may not know, Bluey follows the adventures of Bluey, a playful and excitable puppy who lives with her mom, dad, and younger sister, Bingo. The show has captured hearts worldwide for its warm storytelling and its ability to highlight the beauty in everyday family life.
LaConco expressed her joy and gratitude for the opportunity, calling the project both personal and rewarding. In her statement, she said:
“Voicing Chilli has been a deeply personal and joyful experience. Bluey’s stories are universal but hearing them in our own languages makes them feel even more special. It’s a gift to our children.”
Her words reflect the importance of children being able to consume media in languages they hear at home, making the stories not just entertaining but also deeply relatable.
Barbara Jerzyk Alvarez, Head of CEEMA Content Sales at BBC Studios, also spoke on the significance of this milestone. She said:
“Bluey has always celebrated the magic of everyday family life and now, more children can experience that magic in the language they speak at home.”
As LaConco’s voice brings Chilli to life in isiZulu, South African children can now enjoy the heartwarming stories of Bluey in a way that feels closer to home − OK.
