THE Zimbabwe Ladies Union golf team will leave the country tomorrow for the All-Africa Challenge Trophy in Tunisia. The team is mainly made of upcoming golfers with Batsirai Tilowakuti bringing in the experience.
Danielle Bekker and Emily Jones are the other players who will represent the country at this year’s edition of the prestigious tournament.
There will be a farewell ceremony for the team at Royal Harare this evening and ZLU president Ionka Bekker is hopeful they will do well.
“We have a young side with Jones (12) and Bekker (13) and they have been doing well in international tournaments and they are likely to continue doing well,” said Bekker.
The team was last represented by Aulia Alfazema, Yolanda Mubaiwa and Shamiso Makwara when it was held in Nairobi Kenya in 2014.
In 2012 the event was held in Botswana when Claire Minter, Loice Chingono and Tilowakuti represented the country and they came third behind South Africa and Zambia.
The event attracts several countries and Botswana, Angola, Egypt, gabon, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Reunion, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Swaziland, Togo, Uganda and Zambia are all expected to take part.
Meanwhile, Royal Harare will this morning host the annual National Blood Transfusion Golf Classic with a field of 136 players expected to take part. The event will be partnered by Zimpapers’ StarFM who are the official broadcaster.
The Charity Golf Day is aimed at raising funds to buy a generator for the organisation.
