ZIMBABWE will take on Mozambique in their opening fixture at the International Cricket Council Africa Women’s Qualifier which runs from 5 to 12 May in Harare.
The Lady Chevrons have been drawn in the same group with Tanzania, Nigeria, Mozambique and Rwanda while Uganda, Kenya, Namibia as well a Sierra Leone are in the other pool. Winners of each group will then clash in the final set for Harare Sports Club on 12 May.
Not only is the nine-teamTwenty20 competition serving as part of the pathway for the next year’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to be held in Australia, but will also help decide the participants in the next 50-over ICC Women’s World Cup to be staged in New Zealand in 2021.
Only the winners of the regional tournament will proceed to the next and final qualifying stage, the ICC Women’s Qualifier Global contest.
After Zimbabwe’s opening encounter against Mozambique on Sunday, Uganda will take on Sierra Leone in the afternoon match on the same day, also at OH.
Across the capital, match day one will see Takashinga Cricket Club hosting Namibia versus Kenya in the morning and Nigeria against Rwanda in the afternoon.
The Mary-Anne Musonda captained Zimbabwe will look to carry the fine form they displayed early this month when they won the Victoria Triangular Series in Uganda without losing a single game in the series versus Kenya and the host nation.
