Lady Chevrons players in auction for inaugural WPL

Eleven members of the Zimbabwe Lady Chevrons’ players will be part of 409 cricketers from around the world going under the hammer for the inaugural Indian Women’s Premier League at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on February 13.

Skipper Mary-Anne Musonda leads the list of Lady Chevrons players on auction list together with Ashley Ndiraya, Audrey Mazvishaya, Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, Kelis Ndhlovu, Josephine Nkomo, Loryn Phiri, Modester Mupachikwa, Nomvelo Sibanda, Precious Marange and Sharne Mayers.

A total of 1 525 players registered for the inaugural Women’s Premier League player auction, but the list was whittled down to 409.

Out of the 409 short listed players, 246 are from India.

The 11 Lady Chevrons players are in the running for 30 slots reserved for foreign players in the five franchises.

Lady Chevrons spinner, Loryn Phiri, who was part of the 2021 ICC T20 Women’s Team of the Year, is one of the 13 foreign players listed on the maximum base price of US$60 000.

The inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League is set for Mumbai from March 4-26, according to a statement by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

A total of 22 matches would be played at the Brabourne Stadium and the DY Patil Stadium.
