THE Zimbabwe women’s national cricket team reclaimed the series lead after a resounding win in their third T20 match against South Africa Emerging yesterday.
The Lady Chevrons are using the five-match series to prepare for next month’s World Cup Qualifiers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Zimbabwe, who lost the second match, came out guns blazing in the third match of the series to take the lead again after they won the first match. The Lady Chevrons beat South Africa by eight wickets.
They bowled out South Africa for 90 runs in 19.5 overs. 16-year-old all-rounder, Kelis Ndhlovu starred with the ball for Zimbabwe as she took four wickets in her four overs and conceded just eight runs.
Josephine Nkomo and Loryn Phiri took two wickets each, conceding 15 and 17 runs, respectively. Christabel Chatonzwa took one.
With a target of 91, Zimbabwe attacked from the beginning of the game and managed to chase it down in just under nine overs. Sharne Mayers scored an unbeaten 55 and finished the innings with a four.
Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano chipped in with 22 to help guide Zimbabwe to a comfortable eight wicket win. They finished on 93-2.
After the South Africa tour, the Lady Chevrons will travel to UAE for a quadrangular series against Thailand, United States of America and UAE which will be their final preparations.
