LADY Tait Primary School in Kadoma is celebrating 100 years of existence.

The headmaster, Mr Umali Kaluma, said:

“Today we stand on the shoulders of giants, celebrating 100 years of academic excellence, innovation, and community service at Lady Tait Primary School.

“I am honoured to lead this esteemed institution, which has been a beacon of hope and opportunity for generations of students.

“As we mark this significant milestone, we remember the visionaries who founded our school, the dedicated teachers who have shaped young minds and the countless students who have passed through our gates.

“We celebrate our rich history, our cultural diversity, and our commitment to providing a world-class education.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our students, parents, teachers, and alumni for their tireless efforts in making Lady Tait Primary School a truly special place. Here’s to many more years of excellence, innovation, and service to our community.”

Mr Lazarus Hofisi, the first black headmaster of the school, said:

“As we celebrate 100 years of Lady Tait Primary School’s existence, as the first black Headmaster of this esteemed institution, I am honoured to have played a part in shaping the school’s history.

“As I reflect on my journey, I am reminded of the significance of this school’s legacy. Lady Tait Primary School was once a symbol of segregation, catering primarily to the coloured, Indian, and Afrikaner communities.

“However, with the advent of independence in 1980, the school began to transform, embracing a more inclusive and diverse community.

“And, in 1985, I had the privilege of joining Lady Tait Primary School as its first black Headmaster.

“Today, as we celebrate this milestone, I am also reminded of the coincidence that this year would have been the 100th birthday of our former President, Robert Gabriel Mugabe.

“While we acknowledge our complex history, we also recognise the progress we have made towards a more inclusive and equitable society.
