LAKE Harvest failed to fulfil their fixture against Mushowani Stars on Saturday in the Northern Region Division One Soccer League after their sponsors withdrew their funding last week. Lake Harvest coach Ralph Kawondera said they could not travel for the game that was set for Madziva because they didn’t have funds for the trip.
“We didn’t go. The company said they can no-longer sponsor the team so we failed to go.
“I am coming back home now to Harare, so I will now be looking for another club. We are meeting tomorrow (today) with the financial director and secretary of the team.
“I feel sorry for the players because for us as coaches we can get jobs, but for the players it is going to be difficult,” said Kawondera.
Club secretary Pias Dure was not picking his phone yesterday.
A 10-man Ngezi Platinum beat Blue Jets 2-1 at Baobab to maintain their pole position in the championship race.
Blue Jets took the lead just a minute into the game through Lawrence Mapiya.
However, they could not maintain the momentum as they eventually went down 1-2 to the log leaders.
Ngezi got their goals from Evans Katema and Daniel Kamunenga, who converted a penalty in the last minutes of the game to snatch a win for his side.
The Platinum boys were reduced to 10 men in the second half when their centre striker, Twalidi Kambona was sent for an early shower for a second bookable offence.
Blue Jets coach, Tererai Zinyowera, said although they played well in the first half.
“It was a game of two halves. We played better in the first half and Ngezi did well in the second half, they lifted their game.
“But I think we were just unlucky, they utilised their chances while we created a lot of chances but we failed to convert.
