Lalapanzi man killed over beer

A Lalapanzi man has been arrested for allegedly causing the death of a 23-year-old man whom he brutally attacked on the head several times with a log after a misunderstanding over beer.

Acting Midlands provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende confirmed the alleged murder of Hlomani Chebundu of Village 5, Makuti, Lalapanzi by Khulekani Moyo (30) of Mangota Farm, Mbembeza, also in Lalapanzi.

The incident leading to the death of Chebundu, Asst Insp Mukwende said, occurred at Mlambo homestead in Village 4 Makuti in Lalapanzi area on August 12 at around 9pm.

She said Moyo allegedly armed himself with a log and fatally struck Chebundu on the head several times after a misunderstanding over beer.

“Moyo and Chebundu allegedly had a misunderstanding over beer and Moyo armed himself with a log,” said Asst Insp Mukwende. “He allegedly struck Hlomani on the head several times and he sustained injuries.

“Chebundu was taken to hospital where his condition deteriorated and he passed away a week later on August 19.”

Asst Insp Mukwende said the matter was reported to the police leading to Moyo’s arrest.
