Lamar is ‘King’ of rap

LAMARUS rapper Kendrick Lamar may be seen as the next king of hip-hop, however, on Saturday he proved to already be the real king of rap music. Even the drizzling rain could not stop the Kendrified weekend. The venue was packed to capacity for the love of “Swimming Pools” singer, an event that left fans hungry for more.
An uncontrollable, excited crowd prior to Lamar’s performance kept shouting his name  – and in a surprising reciprocation, the rapper gave five minutes of silence to appreciate his fans.

“Wow I am honoured to be in South Africa, I see that lots of y’all have been rolling with me, I appreciate it,” he said to a screaming crowd.

Kendrick delivered more than what was expected of him due to a high demand from the crowd. Fans were so into his performance, that were we even listening to a rap choir – with his fans singing along to every song performed.

The best of Mzansi’s local hip-hop acts like Reason, Casper and Khuli Chana took the crowd on the vernacular rap vibes.

Prior to the event in an intimate press conference, Lamar shared his Durban experience where he first performed.

“I loved being in Durban, I was taken to the location and that reminded me of why I am doing what I do.”

“I was born in the hood, it gave me the motivation to be a rapper. I looked at the township as inspiration,” Lamar said.

At 26, he wishes to work with Erykah Badu.

“I hope to one day work with Erykah Badu we would make a great collaboration.”  – Sowetan.
