Lambert turns to Reds

LONDON. — Southampton and England striker Rickie Lambert will have a medical at Liverpool today after the clubs agreed a fee of about £4 million plus add-ons. The Liverpool-born forward will sign a two-year deal at the club where he spent five years as a youth player. The 32-year-old has two years left on his Southampton contract.Lambert scored 14 goals in 39 games this season, and has 117 in 235 appearances since joining Southampton from Bristol Rovers in 2009.

Southampton turned down one offer from Liverpool for Lambert, having rejected a similar bid from West Ham in January. There has been interest in Lambert from other clubs, but it is understood he was only considering Liverpool. — BBC Sport.
