Frank Lampard will be joined by some familiar faces in his second spell as Chelsea boss following the departure of Graham Potter — including club icon Ashley Cole.
Lampard is set to return to Stamford Bridge on an interim basis until the end of the season following the departure of Graham Potter with the club sat 11th in the Premier League.
Having been sacked by Everton back in January, two years after leaving Chelsea, Lampard is not the only coach looking for redemption as he links up with Joe Edwards and Chris Jones.
The Athletic report that Lampard will bring Edwards and Jones back to club as part of his backroom staff, who both followed him from Chelsea to Everton, as well as former Goodison coach Cole.
Chelsea look set to buy themselves time in a bid to find a new permanent coach by bringing in Lam-pard for the remainder of the season, which includes a Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.
Co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali are reportedly considering Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann as potential new boss, with both currently out of work.
Former Brighton captain Bruno Saltor took one game in charge of the Blues after Potter’s exit, a goal-less draw at home against Liverpool which kept them in the bottom half.
Chelsea are next in action against Wolves on Saturday, with a trip to take on Real Madrid following on Tuesday in a matter of weeks that could define their season.
It had been hinted that Bruno might see out the season at the helm of the club, but that is not likely to be the case with Lampard nearing a return.
Boehly and Eghbali said earlier this week: ‘‘Along with our incredible fans, we will all be getting behind Bruno and the team as we focus on the rest of the season.
‘‘We have 10 Premier League games remaining and a Champions League quarter final ahead. We will put every effort and commitment into every one of those games so that we can end the season on a high.’’ — Daily Star
