Land row turns nasty

FIGHTING over his late father’s estate landed a Chipinge man in trouble after he was hauled before the courts facing attempted murder charges.

Appearing before Mutare magistrate Mrs Annie Ndiraya, Hardlife Magaa (31), of Shekwa Village under Chief Musikavanhu was not asked to plead but ordered to apply for bail at the High Court because he was facing a serious offence.

Magaa was charged with attempted murder as defined in Section 47(1) as read with Section 189(1) (a) (b) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23

The complainant, Denboy Muswera (36), sustained a deep cut on his mid top of the head after being struck twice with a hoe by Magaa. Prosecuting, Mr Brian Goto, said on November 22 around 5pm, Magaa approached Muswera — who was in the garden with his wife Angela Zvavarungu — and quarrelled with the former over a piece of land that the complainant had ploughed.

The couple returned to their house, but after a few hours, Magaa followed and picked up a hoe which was nearby and struck Muswera twice on the head. Muswera was then ferried to the hospital and a police report was made, leading to Magaa’s arrest.
