THE construction of the Landa John Nkomo Memorial Clinic in Tsholotsho got a major boost on Sunday when Bulawayo businessman Raj Modi donated 600 bags of cement that are enough to complete the project.

In a speech read on his behalf by businessman Joseph Rego, Modi said he drew great pleasure in contributing towards a project that would carry on the legacy of the late Vice President John Landa Nkomo who died in 2013.

“As a member of the Dr Landa J Nkomo Foundation, I’m proud and happy to donate these 600 bags of cement. I also pledge to continue supporting similar plans and programmes in future,” said Modi.

Matabeleland North Provincial Administrator, Latiso Dlamini thanked Modi for the gesture.

“We as Matabeleland North Province would like to express our profound gratitude to Mr Modi. The support you are giving us will go a long way in assisting us to realise the objectives of Zim-Asset. You have touched many clusters through this single project,” said Dlamini.

“Under infrastructural development we’re going to build a clinic. Women are going to be treated at the clinic, covering the social services cluster. Furthermore, we are also going to create jobs which is another objective of Zim-Asset”.

Dlamini urged the Tsholotsho Rural District Council to use the cement for its intended purpose. She also called on the council to strive to meet the October 2016 deadline to complete the project.

The Landa John Nkomo Trust chairperson, Jabulani Nkomo said he was humbled by Modi’s gesture.

He said during the official opening of Modi’s Liquor Hub in Bulawayo, the businessman pledged to Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa that he was going to donate to the clinic.

He said Modi had always been a pillar of strength in the family’s efforts to keep the legacy of the late VP alive.

“As a foundation and family we will not tire in doing something good for the Manqe community. We are grateful that the community of Tsholotsho and the local authority have made it easy for us to be able to fulfil some of our father’s dreams. We are working together with the council and other business people to get the clinic project going and this donation will go a long way towards achieving that,” said Nkomo.
