Landlady loses ear in fight over rent

A Gweru woman will spend an effective 18 months in prison for assaulting and biting off her landlady’s left ear after being ordered to vacate the house over unpaid rent.Gweru magistrate, Judith Taruvinga, heard how during the night on January 14, 2014, Joyce Chimwanda, 23  confronted  her landlady, Evelyn Chihosana of Mkoba Village 13 after being ordered to vacate the house for failing to  pay her rentals.

Prosecuting, Hackson Kadungure said at about 10PM, Chihosana knocked at Chawanda’s door and demanded her rentals. She ordered her to immediately vacate the house together with her family as she was failing to pay her rentals.

Kadungure said as they were preparing to vacate the house, Chihosana demanded that Chimwanda leaves behind the family’s two plate stove as payment for what they owed her in rentals.

An argument arose between the two and                 Chimwanda later became violent and bit off Chihosana’s left ear. Chihosana, who bled profusely, reported the matter to the police leading to Chiwanda’s arrest.
