PRESIDENT MNANGAGWA will today engage over 10 000 children of the country’s liberation struggle veterans in a landmark interface aimed at creating platforms for their meaningful participation in empowerment initiatives and national governance structures.
The interface, slated for the Harare International Conference Centre, will be held under the theme: “Veterans’ Children Safeguarding the Legacy and Advancing Vision 2030.”
Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs Minister Monica Mavhunga told our Harare Bureau yesterday that everything was in place for today’s interface.
“Yes, everything is in place for the President’s interface with the children of war veterans of the liberation struggle to be held tomorrow.
“The children are going to come in their numbers. We are expecting over 10 000 and they will interface with President Mnangagwa,” she said.
Minister Mavhunga said today’s interface would mainly focus on imploring the children of war veterans to take up the mantle left by their forebears and aid the country’s achievement of upper-middle-class economic status by 2030.
“The children of the veterans of the liberation struggle should continue with the legacy left by their parents of the revolution by contributing meaningfully to the country’s growth and development,” she said.
Minister Mavhunga said President Mnangagwa would outline expectations to children of war veterans, as well as the role they are expected to play in advancing the country’s modernisation and industrialisation agenda.
“Tomorrow the President will encourage them as children to shun vices like drug and substance abuse and instead aid the country’s development,” said Minister Mavhunga.
The event is being organised by the Apex Council of Children of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle in partnership with the Ministry of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs and other affiliated organisations, including the Children of Zimbabwe Liberation War Veterans Association (CZLWVA).
RedRev Youth Empowerment Fund executive secretary Cde Clarrion Chigudu a fortnight ago called upon all members to attend the event and said organisers expect every province to be represented.
RedRev Youth is part of the committee that organised the Presidential Interface.
“We are calling you all on October 5. We are expecting all provinces to come and attend such a prestigious event with His Excellency the President,” she said.
