Seven armed robbers have been sentenced to various prison terms ranging from 12 years to life imprisonment for a series of criminal activities across the country.

Among those sentenced are two brothers from Harare, William Boka (39) and Kudakwashe Boka (32), who received life sentences after they fatally shot a victim during a robbery in August 2020.

The victim, unaware of the robbery in progress, returned home and was shot dead.

In a statement, Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) said, “In a landmark ruling, the Boka brothers were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment following their involvement in the murder case on August 18, 2020. The circumstances indicate that they opened fire upon the victim’s return, resulting in his immediate death.”

In another case, Tichaona Chamangwana (49) from Unit O, Seke, Chitungwiza, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for an armed robbery.

Chamangwana and accomplices broke into a complainant’s house in Borrowdale, Harare, assaulted the occupants, and stole property valued at USD $22 700.

Investigations led to the recovery of property worth USD $15 000.

Pride Hamandishe (39) of Kuwadzana 2, Harare, was also sentenced to an effective 12-year jail term for an armed robbery committed on October 20, 2024, during which he and his accomplices stole property valued at USD $2 458.

Rainos Takawira (46) from Highfields, Harare, received a 12-year sentence for armed robbery as well.

Additionally, Abel Marufu Mukandawire and Kudakwashe Choga, both from Chitungwiza, were sentenced to 18 years each for an armed robbery committed on July 29, 2021, where they used pistols to rob a complainant of cash and valuables.

“These convictions reinforce the collective responsibility of the police and judiciary in our ongoing efforts to secure a crime-free environment,” said Detective Insp Muteweri.
