Harare City 2-1FC Platinum
YOUTHFUL forward Tinotenda Kadewere and Benson Maglasi helped Harare City come from behind to secure victory in a rescheduled Castle Lager Premiership match at Rufaro yesterday.
A 59th minute strike by Walter Musona, who fired home from a free-kick, had given the Zvishavane side the lead.
A determined second half performance by the hosts saw former Prince Edward student Kadewere, who came in for Honey Chimutimunzeve, equalising in the 73rd minute as he dribbled his way before firing home.
On the stroke of full-time Maglasi, who had come in for Martin Vengesayi, connected a cross from Talent Chawapihwa, to seal victory for Taurai Mangwiro’s charges.
“Today’s victory very important and could mean a lot for us as far as the season is concerned,” said Mangwiro.
“Had we lost, obviously, we were going to be under some form of pressure having lost the first game against Tsholotsho.
“Well done to the boys for the resilience they showed today.
“All the substitutions that we made today (yesterday) were very effective. That is what a team should be made of.
“We needed victory going into the game against Dynamos.”
FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza said he would not blame fatigue for their loss.
The miners have been forced to play mid-week and weekend matches to make up for lost time during their African safari campaign.
“Maybe they might be tired. If you lose you tend to have such excuses. It would be a lame excuse to say it’s because of fatigue and I don’t want to blame the players.
“We created so many chances today but football is about goals, we had some good opportunities but couldn’t take them.
“We just have to solider on. It’s a rough terrain,” said Mapeza.
