PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has described the late former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga as an “outstanding African nationalist” who played his part in the formation of modern and independent Africa.
The President said this after he signed the book of condolences for Mr Odinga (80) at the Kenyan Embassy in Harare today.
Mr Odinga died of a heart attack in India last week and was buried last weekend.
Speaking to the media after signing the book of condolences, President Mnangagwa said he held the former Prime Minister in high regard.
“Well, he is one of the outstanding African nationalists,” he said.
“We recognise him both in Southern Africa and East Africa. He has played his part in moulding the modern independent African states. He was a solid pan-Africanist.
“When we grew up we emulated his vision and his speeches and we feel that he has done his part in moulding modern independent Africa.”
