LATEST: Diarrhoea claims 14 in July

The Ministry of Health and Child Care says 14 people died of diarrhoea countrywide during the first week of this month bringing the total number of people who have died of diarrhoea so far this year to 270 out of 255 735 reported cases.

According to the ministry’s surveillance disease update, Matabeleland North province was the hardest hit in the first week as it recorded four deaths in Umguza district while Harare province recorded three deaths.

Manicaland and Midlands both recorded two deaths while Mashonaland Central and Mashonaland East province each recorded one death. The 14th death was recorded at Chitungwiza Central Hospital .

Manicaland recorded the highest number of diarrhoea cases in the first week of July at 1 539 followed by Masvingo with 1 355.
