edgar lunguLUSAKA – A team of medical doctors attending to President Edgar Lungu says the Head of State is in good condition and has ruled out any trace of malaria.Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda has disclosed that medical tests carried so far ruled out malaria infection.

In a medical briefing on President Lungu’s condition to ZNBC News around midnight, Mr Chanda said President Lungu has a history of the narrowing of the food pipe (medically known as achalasia), which was corrected 30 years ago at the University Teaching Hospital.

Mr Chanda says tests have revealed that this condition may have recurred and could have led to the low sugar condition the President experienced during the Women’s Day event.

He says a team of senior doctors comprising physicians, surgeons, pathologists, and radiologists, disclosed these findings and recommended immediate correction of this condition.

Mr Chanda further says the nation shall be informed on further developments.

He said Dr. Dorothy Kasonde and Dr. Dave Kishore on behalf the doctors attending to President Lungu have issued the statement on the President’s condition.

President Lungu, fell ill on Sunday while officiating at the Women’s Day celebrations.

At Heroes Stadium, the presumptive diagnosis revealed traces of malaria and low blood sugar level.

Mr Chanda further says during an observation and treatment the low sugar level was corrected and the President was able to address the parade on the podium at Heroes Stadium.

The President was later taken to Maina Soko Military Hospital for medical tests and observation where traces of malaria infection was ruled out. – ZNBC
