Members of Parliament today grilled trustees of the Marange-Zimunya Community Share Ownership Trust over use of funds in the scheme.
About US$400 000 was disbursed by Mbada Diamonds and Marange Resources towards the scheme in June last year.

Trustee chairperson Chief Marange, secretary to the trust Chief Zimunya, Mr Shepherd Chinaka and other members appeared before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment chaired by Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator Cde Justice Wadyajena (Zanu-PF).

Legislators expressed dismay over how the trust had already spent US$45 000 in seven months when no empowerment project had been undertaken on the ground.

They also raised concern with how the board continued to operate when it was not fully constituted.

Trustees said they spent over US$17 000 on board fees, about US$14, 500 on travelling and subsistence and about US$13 000 on training.
