The acting Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Cde Prisca Mupfumira says local media practitioners should abide by the principles of good journalism by reporting honestly, truthfully and factually to teach, inform and educate people who consume the news.
Cde Mupfumira, who is also the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, said Zimpapers reporters should desist from getting involved in factional politics and focus on development issues which help in building the country.
Speaking during a familiarisation tour of the Zimpapers head office and newsrooms at Herald House in Harare today, Minister Mupfumira said news coverage should particularly focus on the Government’s economic recovery blueprint, ZimAsset, especially in the face of the economic sanctions imposed on the country by the West .
Minister Mupfumira said Zimpapers is a key stakeholder in efforts to rebuild the country as it plays an important role in communication adding that the company should continue coming up with innovative news products to counter increasing competition from other organisations.
She said Zimpapers has remained a strong company despite the harsh economic conditions which have seen several other news organisations closing shop in recent times.
Minister Mupfumira expressed optimism that Zimbabwe will come out of the present difficult conditions and urged Zimpapers journalists to remain patriotic ambassadors of the country in their reportage of key national issues.
