A woman from Bulawayo’s Nkulumane suburb, who was allegedly robbed of US$49 475 belonging to a money club intended to be shared among its members, near Mbokodo Abattoirs has broken her silence.
Following the incident, which occurred on 9 December last year and sparked a flurry of discussions and reactions on social media platforms, with many expressing shock, disbelief, and concern, Duduzile Nkomazana, the victim, decided to speak publicly about her ordeal.
Nkomazana told B-Metro that she reported the incident at Nkulumane Police Station under case number CR57/12/24.
However, she only decided to speak publicly about the incident after this publication had made efforts to contact her to inquire about the details of the event.
Contacted for comment last Thursday, Nkomazana stated, “I am in Nkayi attending a wedding. I will contact you on Sunday when I am in Bulawayo.”

However, she failed to contact the publication on Sunday as promised.
This publication contacted her again on Thursday this week, to which she responded, “I do not understand your question and I cannot answer you at the moment.”
She later responded at around 9pm stating, “Yes, I was robbed. I was informed by the Nkulumane Police Station that the case has been transferred to Figtree Police Station.”

Contacted for a comment, Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said the matter does not fall under her jurisdiction.
“We do not have such a case on record. The location where the incident occurred falls under the jurisdiction of the Figtree Police Station. Please contact the Matabeleland South police spokesperson for further information,” she said.
Contacted for comment, Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena stated that they had not received any record of such a case.
“We did not receive any report of such an incident. However, we will continue to check our records and will inform you if any information becomes available,” said Insp Mangena.
It is alleged that on 9 December last year, Nkomazana withdrew US$49 475 from a bank located in the city centre.
This money belonged to a money club and was intended to be shared among its members. After withdrawing the funds, she left for home.
While she was near Mbokodo Abattoirs, two Honda Fit cars sandwiched her car, effectively blocking her escape route.
According to a source, the robbery occurred swiftly.
“Two cars blocked her car before forcibly pulling her out of the vehicle and making off with US$49 475,” revealed the source.
Nkomazana was alleged to have been able to recover from the initial shock and subsequently reported the incident at Nkulumane Police Station.
