Latest on C/Park Garikai/Hlalani Kuhle houses

BULAWAYO Ward 28 Councillor Collet Ndhlovu, has told residents at Garikai/Hlalani Kuhle stands in Cowdray Park not to pay the money which is being demanded by the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing claiming it was an illegal scheme by corrupt Government officials.

Addressing Cowdray Park residents yesterday, Clr Ndhlovu said there were some corrupt officials intending to milk residents by demanding money for houses that they had already paid for.

“When the Government was handing over houses to council in 2012, we were not told of any debts. As your councillor I do not know of any moneys that you owe to the Government. I know you paid for these houses and the papers I have in my office testify to that,” he said.

More than 700 families with houses in the area in February received letters from the ministry directing them to pay $4 000 for the houses, indicating that the money they paid in the past was for rentals. Clr Ndhlovu said he was going to pursue the matter legally.
