Zimbabwe Parks Wildlife Management Authority has come under fire after it flighted tenders for the supply of new vehicles for its directors and recruiting new executives at a time when it is saddled with three months’ salary arrears for its workers.
Members of a parliamentary portfolio committee on Environment, Water and Climate change rapped the Parks management for misdirection of priorities at a time when the country was battling with the challenge of poachers which the game rangers were supposed to combat.
Parks board was also in the eye of a storm after they appointed fellow board member, Mr Wilson Mutinhima, to be acting director general raising issues of corporate governance at the authority.
Mr Mutinhima was appointed acting director general replacing Mr Edson Chidziya who was suspended to allow investigations after anomalies were identified in rhino stockpiles.
Committee chairperson and Rushinga MP Cde Wonder Mashange (Zanu-PF) asked Mr Mutinhima today during oral evidence session why the authority had flighted a tender to buy new vehicles for management and an advert inviting people to apply for two posts of directors.
Cde Mashange accused the Mutinhima led management of being insensitive and asked him how the workers were supposed to feel about the evidence of their extravagance.
“How do you expect game rangers toiling in the bush to respond to these adverts,” asked Cde Mashange.
