LATEST: President attends COP21 official opening

PRESIDENT Mugabe today joined 147 other world leaders for the official opening of the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change that opened at the Le Bourguet Complex here at 9am (10 am Zimbabwe time).

The opening ceremony saw the COP presidency changing from Peru to France with French foreign minister Laurent Fabius being elected president of COP21 by acclamation.

The opening ceremony was addressed by the outgoing COP president Dela Cop of Peru, UNFCC executive secretary Ms Christiana Figuerres and the Prince of Wales Prince Charles, among other dignitaries.

President Mugabe is scheduled to address the session just after midday.
