THREE MDC-T activists on trial for allegedly killing a senior police officer in Glen View three years ago have finally been granted bail by the High Court.
Justice Chinembiri Bhunu sitting in his chambers today granted bail to Tungamirai Madzokere, Lazarus Maengahama and Yvonne Musarurwa.
They have been in remand prison since their arrest in 2011 on charges of murdering police inspector Petros Mutedza in Glenview 3, Harare.
Both the defence and prosecution lawyers confirmed the trio was granted bail on the same conditions with their co-accused who have since been acquitted of the crime.
Defence lawyer Ms Beatrice Mtetwa said “They shall be admitted to bail on the same terms of conditions of their co-accused.” Prosecutor Mr Edmore Nyazamba of the Prosecutor-General’s Office confirmed the court’s ruling on the bail appeal.
They will each pay US$500 bail.
The other 21 were acquitted of the murder at the close of the state’s case while the remaining four have been put on their defence.
The three are being charged of killing Insp Mutedza. He had been deployed to maintain peace and order in Glenview while leading the police reaction group.
