Three people were killed in separate murder cases on Saturday while two gold panners died after a mine shaft they were working in collapsed in Chinamhora.
Chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said in one of the cases, a 25-year-old woman from Gwanzura Farm in Kadoma was stabbed to death after an argument with a colleague at a drinking place.
The colleague reportedly disappeared from the scene.
“In the second incident, a 53-year-old man was stabbed to death with a knife after a misunderstanding over a woman in Wedza. The now deceased arrived at his girlfriend’s house and knocked at the door but there was no response,” Snr Asst Comm Charamba said.
She said he then forced open the door and found his girlfriend with another man.
An argument arose and the man stabbed the boyfriend who died on the spot.
Police are also investigating a case in which a 62-year-old Epworth man was on Saturday found dead in his house with a lacerated cheek.
Meanwhile, Snr Asst Comm Charamba said two men from Rockwood mine in Chinamhora were trapped underground when a mine shaft they were working in collapsed.
“The ZRP is urging members of the public to desist from the use of weapons when they are involved in disputes. They should resolve their disputes amicably without resorting to violence.
“Mine owners are also urged to first ensure the safety of their mines before deploying their personnel,” she said.
She urged members of the public to avoid risking their lives by entering disused mines or shafts as they might be trapped or exposed to hazardous substances.
Snr Asst Comm Charamba appealed to anyone with information that might led to the arrests of the suspects who committed the murder cases to contact the nearest police station or the National Complaints Desk on (04) 703631.
