NATIONAL team junior golfer David Amm is on the threshold of making history as the youngest ever player to take part in the Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open after an impressive outing in the pre-qualifying round at Chapman today.
The 14-year-old has booked a berth at the Open and is slightly older than another promising youngster, Sean Crocker who did well at the same event last year as 16-year old. Tanaka Mhere also played aged 16 last year.
But it was Amm, who has represented the Zimbabwe in the Tri-Nations, who carded a level par 72 to book his place in the event which begins on Thursday.
Amm, who had former Zimbabwe Rugby Union president Themba Sibanda as his caddy said he is very happy to be part of the final field.
“I am feeling good to be part of the final field and, coming into the event, I just told myself to enjoy my game. I did well and managed to keep the good scores and I thank my putting which got me into the game.
I am excited and now look forward to the final event. Amm was among the professionals and amateur golf players who took to the field to fight for the remaining eight slots that will see them join the main field for the Zimbabwe Open.
