A Bulawayo-based law firm, Mashayamombe Co and Attorneys, has brought joy to female inmates at Mlondolozi Special Institute by donating various essential items to improve their welfare.

The facility houses female inmates, including those with mental illnesses, as well as children born in prison—currently, seven babies are living with their mothers inside the institute.

The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services provides for the basic needs of inmates; however well-wishers complement these efforts by donating some of these basics.

The donation from the law firm included sanitary wear, baby supplies and other much-needed items.

Superintendent Romana Mapondera, officer in charge of Mlondolozi Special Institute, praised the donation, emphasizing its importance to the institution, especially since some inmates receive little or no support from their families.

“We are grateful for the donation as it will help alleviate the challenges we face, particularly during winter. With children born in prison who need diapers and clothes, this contribution is truly appreciated,” she said.
