In a chamber application filed at the High Court on Tuesday, Muskwe and Associates submitted that it rendered legal services to the local authority since 2009.
The services, the law firm claimed, were rendered to the town council between February 2009 to August 31, 2010.
According to Muskwe and Associates the services included legal advice, court appearances and general correspondence on behalf of the council at the request of the council.
The professional services amounted to US$18 325,74.
“To date the defendant has effected payment to plaintiff in the sum of US$6 000 leaving a balance of US$18 325,75 due and owing to plaintiff,” the law firm submitted.
The law firm further submitted that council has made numerous undertaking to settle the debt, which it has reneged upon each time it made such an undertaking.
“Despite demand, the defendant refuses or neglects to pay the aforesaid sum,” the law firm submitted.
Norton Town Council is yet to respond to the application expected to be heard soon at the High Court.
