Lawn maintenance in rainy season

Rebecca Kabaya Home and Garden Writer
The rains are upon us and very soon the grass will be growing everywhere including our yards and immediate surroundings.
It also means lawns grow faster, even in places we did not water in the dry season. That dead lawn shoots up again. It will also result in the sprouting of more weeds in the lawn.

To help keep your grass happy, healthy and green throughout the rainy season, there is need for some tips.
Farai Murime who works at one of the local landscaping and gardening services company said weeds take on a life of their own in the summer. Given enough rain grass can easily grow three to six inches in a week.

“The saying ‘you can sit and watch the grass grow’ is really true during the summer months. In season, October to January, it can take a short time see that much growth. Now consider you could not cut the grass on time due to rain. It grows many inches than expected.

“When you finally attend to the grass it is very lush, wet and hard to cut. It takes you twice as long because you may have to cut areas twice. This leaves little time for other things like pruning or weed control but you have to make time because these tasks will quickly get out of control if you don’t.”
