A HARARE lawyer will tomorrow appear before the Harare Magistrates Court after he was arrested by the Commercial Crimes Division in connection with an alleged fraudulent property transfer involving Stand 163 Quinnington in Borrowdale.
David Donzvambewa, of Jiti Law Chambers, was arrested on allegations of fraud and is being held at Rhodesville Police Station under CR Number 275/5/26 and CIDCCCDR99/5/26.
The arrest stems from investigations into the ownership of Stand 163 Quinnington, a property registered in the name of Bluegen Consultancy.
Police are investigating allegations that Grace Communications, a company which Donzvambewa claims to have been representing, used a fake deed of transfer in an attempt to lay claim to the property.
Investigators suspect that the deed of transfer may have been fraudulently produced and are probing allegations that it bore the forged signature of Mrs Ellen Runyararo Mawire, a principal examiner with the Deeds Registry.
As part of the investigations, detectives reportedly recorded a statement from Mrs Mawire regarding the authenticity of the documents used in the transaction.
Sources familiar with the matter said further investigations raised questions over the registration details of Grace Communications, with allegations that the company was registered using inaccurate information, including an address that could not be readily verified.
Donzvambewa is understood to have informed investigators that he was acting on behalf of Grace Communications in his professional capacity as a legal practitioner. The company’s directors are reportedly being sought by police.
Although police could not immediately comment on the matter yesterday, sources said the lawyer handed himself over to police after detectives had spent several weeks seeking to interview him.
The State is expected to outline the allegations when Donzvambewa appears in court tomorrow.
