A LAWYER asked rapper Ti Gonzi if he was drunk when he appeared in court on Monday.
The rapper was testifying in a fraud case in which he is accusing Prophet Walter Magaya’s bodyguard of duping him.
Ti Gonzi refused to answer most of the questions put to him, prompting the presiding magistrate to warn him to answer the questions.
The suspect is Tapiwa Felix Chikondo.
His lawyer, Malvern Mapako, asked Ti Gonzi whether he was intoxicated and his response was to laugh loudly, without answering.
The complainant is the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, represented by Collin’s Ncube its Revenue supervisor.
The State, represented by Lancelot Mutsokoti, alleged that Chikondo, who is a security aide at Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries, smuggled a Toyota Mark X from Japan, between July and August last year.
The car was secured at Yadah Hotel, Waterfalls.
The State claims Chikondo identified a similar car, a Toyota Mark X, registration number ABX 7852, registered in the name of Dumisani Dube.
Chikondo allegedly came up with a plan of using the registration particulars of that vehicle to obtain a new set of number plates for his smuggled car.
The car was later sold to T Gonzi.
Chikondo told the court that he never owned the car in question and denied any involvement in its importation and registration.
He told the court that he never defrauded ZIMRA.
He denied defrauding Ti Gonzi as he never had any agreement with him for the purpose of selling the car.
He also denied ever receiving money from the rapper.
Kudakwashe Muza prosecuted.
