A HARARE lawyer, Nyasha Pamela Timba, has taken her ex-husband, Alexius Munyanda, to court for allegedly failing to pay maintenance arrears amounting to US$8 020, despite court orders compelling him to do so.

Timba, an employee at Devitte Rudolph and Timba Legal Practitioners, accuses Munyanda, the managing director of Parkview Packaging, of neglecting his financial obligations to their family.

Munyanda, who appeared in court last week, has been remanded in custody and is awaiting a bail ruling today.

Prosecutor Anesu Chirenje told the court that on August 15, 2025, at the Harare Magistrates Court, Munyanda was ordered to pay several expenses for their children.

These include US$1 100 for application and registration fees at Heritage School, US$1 945 in school fees for one child, and US$1 100 monthly for occupational and speech therapy fees for the same child.

Additionally, he owes US$3 870 in school fees for another child for the third term of 2025 and subsequent terms starting August 30, 2025.

The State alleges that Munyanda has failed to meet these obligations and is now in arrears amounting to US$8 020.

In addition to the maintenance case, Munyanda faces charges of breaching a court order that barred him from verbally and physically abusing Timba.

According to the State, on July 14, 2025, Munyanda was ordered to desist from such behaviour.

However, on September 9, 2025, at Borrowdale Police Station, he allegedly physically assaulted Timba by forcefully pushing her hand, which was holding a cellphone, accusing her of recording him. He then verbally abused her, threatening her life and using harsh language.

The State claims Munyanda said: “You will regret this. Uchandiona. This will end in a mess, mark my words.

“Ndichakukuvadza, hazvipere pasina ropa (I will harm you; this won’t end without blood). I have paid the police $500, so there’s nothing you can do to me.”

The prosecution further alleges that Munyanda threatened to harm Timba upon his release from custody, warning her she would regret having him arrested.
