HOUSEHOLD goods left behind in South Africa by Zimbabweans returning home have arrived at the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) transit centre in Bulawayo’s Njube suburb, bringing relief to dozens of returnees as they rebuild their lives.
The consignment, delivered through a Government-facilitated programme, includes beds, refrigerators, wardrobes, cupboards and bags of clothing belonging to Zimbabweans who recently returned from South Africa.
Government met the full cost of transporting the goods and coordinated the logistics to ensure the belongings were safely delivered to their owners at the transit centre.
The development is expected to ease the burden on many returnees who were forced to leave their possessions behind as they fled escalating anti-migrant violence and other challenges in South Africa before returning home.
The initiative forms part of Government’s broader programme to support the reintegration of returning Zimbabweans by helping them recover their personal belongings and rebuild their lives with dignity.
Bulawayo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Judith Ncube, is expected to meet and address the beneficiaries this afternoon before the household goods are handed over to their owners.
