Leadership in the time of exams: A call to prefects, head boy and head girl

Dr Muso

To the head boy, head girl and prefects
As student leaders, you carry more than just titles — you carry influence, responsibility and expectation.

As the examination period approaches, the school community is watching you. Your actions, attitude and performance set the tone for others to follow.

Lead by Example — Even in the exam room

True leadership is not just shown on the parade ground or at assembly. It is revealed in how you handle pressure, manage your time and remain focused when it matters most. While your peers may be tempted to give in to distractions, you must rise above and model discipline and excellence.

Be punctual to exams.
Revise consistently.
Support your fellow learners with kindness and wisdom.
Display integrity — no shortcuts, no cheating.

Balance your leadership and academics

Yes, you have duties. You are called to monitor, organise and represent. But remember this: your primary role is that of a student first. Your success in these examinations matters. You must pass with flying colours — not only for your future but to prove that leaders can also be achievers.
Plan your time wisely. Communicate with your teachers when duties overwhelm you. Delegate where possible. Make your studies a top priority without neglecting your leadership responsibilities.

Inspire by action

Let your work ethic inspire your juniors. Let your calm presence during exams reduce anxiety around you. Let your results speak of a leader who was not only in charge of others — but also in charge of themselves.
This is your moment. Lead with honour. Study with focus. Sit your exams with confidence.
May your results reflect the greatness within you.
