EPHRAIM Mwale’s funeral cortege arrives at Umvutshwa Cemetery in Bulawayo where he will be buried.
Mwale a hot property as a striker on the domestic scene 1989-91, died in South Africa last week at the age of 58.
His body arrived in Bulawayo yesterday and his funeral service was held at Tshabalala’s Holy Cross Catholics Parish earlier this morning.
The CocaCola winner with AmaZulu FC in 1992, retired a year later after a career ending injury on the pitch.
He then sought employment in Johannesburg and worked for a security company at OR Tambo International Airport in Gauteng up to 2020.
Mwale attended Masuku and Ihlathi schools in Tshabalala before starting his semi-professional journey with Cotton Printers who also gave him a job.
After inspiring performances he moved to Division One side Merlin Husky where he attracted the attention of Eagles.
Some sublime performances led to moves to Black Mambas and Caps United and I’m later AmaZulu, South Africa where he became among the first Zimbabweans to play in South Africa legally after the lifting of Mzansi’s Fifa suspension.
He is survived by his wife and four daughters.
