HAMILTON Sibanda, the grandson of the former Chibuku Shumba, Wankie FC and Rhodesia goalkeeper Posani is admitted to Mpilo Hospital after prickling his eye on Wednesday while mending a football boot.

He had just been selected to his primary school’s cluster and was getting ready for the next stage of the competition.

Weekly Mwale who was the legendary’s understudy after arriving from Hippo Valley in 1983, confirmed that the youngster was hurt on Wednesday.

“The youngster plays for Makwa Academy and stays with his dad and grandmother the late Posani’s wife. He was selected to play for his school and cluster as a goalkeeper. He was trying to mend his boot but instead he poked a needle into his eye and has been rushed to Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo. He is only 12 years and is very talented. The family requests assistance towards medical bills,” said Mwale.

Goalkeeping seems to run in the family as Posani’s young brothers James and Firi were good goalkeepers and Timothy stepped in for the second generation while Hamilton was set to be the third in the family.

“He was taken to Hwange and later Victoria Falls. He was later driven to Bulawayo where he is hospitalized. We are requesting that the family be assisted with medical expenses,” said Mwale who has over the year ran successful fundraisers for his teammates and players’ welfare in Matabeleland and particularly Hwange.

The Makwa Primary School pupil is 12 years old.
