THE annual Legends Darts Cup resumes this afternoon with the semi-finals and final at Parkview Sports Club.
The event, meant to honour veteran darts players, started on Wednesday evening before taking a one day break.A total of 68 players converged at the competition venue on Wednesday and the numbers have since drastically reduced as players took turns to eliminate each other like the famous wrestling competition, the Royal Rumble, where the last man standing is declared the winner.
Bulawayo Darts Association (BDA) committee member Apinos Chiwara said they were happy with the turnout for the tournament.
“Everything is set for the semis and the final. We are happy with the participation by league players, this shows that the game is alive. We had expected to get more players but the number that turned out is good enough. Some of the league’s best players are participating in the tournament which means these games can be used for ranking,” said Chiwara.
He said they did not get the expected numbers because players from the uniformed forces were away in Harare.
“Most of our players who come from uniformed forces are away and that has had effect on the participation numbers. There are veteran and young players who are not here but we have gone on with the tournament and they will have their turn next year,” said Chiwara.
The players were put into eight groups of five players and two groups of four players each and that saw 38 players going through to the semifinals.
The winner and outstanding players in various categories will be recognised at an award ceremony to be held some time at the end of the year.
