Legends to rock 105

reverberate to the real sounds of jazz when it plays host to more than 10 legendary groups in the genre.
The venue that had at one point become a “bambazonke” (free for all) hosting sungura giants like Orchestra Dendera Kings and the Mighty Family is now back to basics with a stellar line-up of jazz performances this weekend.
Featured on the bill are legendary jazz groups which made a name for themselves in the 1970s while fusing genres such as rock, pop, soul and blues.
Jazz connoisseurs will definitely be taken down memory lane during the show dubbed “Veterans Reunion”.
Veteran crooner Austin Zvoma, who is also the Clerk of Parliament of Zimbabwe, takes time off his busy schedule to entertain fans while Moses Kabubi and Fari Sumaili, among others, will team up with outfits such as Summer Breeze, Too Open and Sound Bank to rock the masses.
These artistes used to perform at venues like Mai Musodzi Hall in Mbare and the Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield where they played cover versions of some of the most popular Western artistes of that time.
Show organiser Josh Hozheri of Jazz 105 said the gig was meant to remind people of the history of jazz music in Zimbabwe while at the same time trying to show young musicians the direction that music has taken in the country.Josh Hozheri
“It is quite unique and in a way meant to define the Zimbabwean music trends into the future.
“Young musicians should come and see how music was done in the past. Musicians then used to take rehearsals seriously and play actual live music and not backtracks that most of these young artistes rely on these days,” said Hozheri. He said they invited a host of artistes who used to play during that era to showcase what they used to do.
“This is one way of going down into history through music. We started out with a similar show in 2003 and it attracted a lot of people and interest, hence the decision to host a similar one on Saturday,” said Hozheri.
Summer Breeze needs no introduction to fans as they are one of the most sought-after groups at Jazz 105 with their mellow vibes, while Too Open are also currently one of the hottest jazz groups in town.
The show promises to be a memorable one with a star-studded line-up and a fusion of old and new skool.
