LUPANE East Member of Parliament Cde Phathisiwe Machangu Ncube has donated 4 000 chicks to 15 wards within her constituency to enhance the livelihoods of rural communities.

The programme’s objective is to empower villagers and improve food security in the area through increasing access to protein-rich food and boosting household income, ultimately enhancing the overall well-being of villagers.

In an interview with Sunday News, the legislator’s secretary Cde Bishop Tamuka Nyoni said the facility will ultimately enhance the overall well-being of community members.
He revealed that the target was to give 400 chicks per ward, divided into four groups, meaning each group would receive 100.

“We are committed to ensuring that our villagers benefit from this programme and we are excited to see the positive impact it will have on their lives.

“In total, 4 000 chicks were distributed to 15 wards, with traditional leaders and other stakeholders, such as acting Chief Mabhikwa, also benefiting from the facility. By providing chicks, we are giving people the opportunity to produce food and generate income, which will have a lasting impact on their well-being,” said Cde Nyoni.

He said that as part of their next batch, they will be distributing 6 000 chicks to ensure that more people in the constituency benefit from the facility.
“Our MP is making sure that she leaves up to President Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind. We will ensure that everyone benefits, this inclusive of the youth, women and vulnerable groups,” said Cde Nyoni.

“We want to ensure that the programme has the desired impact and that the beneficiaries are making progress. The programme’s monitoring and evaluation component is crucial to its success. Follow-up visits will be conducted in all wards to assess the progress of the chick distribution initiative.”

He said their other aim was to see that villagers managed the facility properly, within 12 weeks they would be reaping the benefits.
“We have a problem where some of our villagers are struggling to get money to pay school fees for their children but within 12 weeks they will now have funds which they will then use to cater for these expenses,” said Cde Nyoni.
