Lenience Tambwera joins Falcons Rugby Union

IT seems life is moving in the right direction for Lenience Tambwera.
The Sables and former Zimbabwe Under-20 flyhalf has joined the Falcons Rugby Union in South Africa where he has been named in the 41-man extended Currie Cup qualification squad.
Tambwera, who has impressed with the Cheetahs, joined the side this week and over the last few days has been involved in a couple of practice games.

The midfielder is battling for a jersey against the likes of Cecil Dumond, Wayne Gardner, and Juan Kotze.
He is the only foreign player who has been named in the Currie Cup qualification squad that will feature in the seven-team tournament.

The winner of the competition will join the premier division of the Currie Cup which is the top-tier of South Africa’s premier domestic rugby union competition.

Having grown in the Churchill School ranks, the former Bulldong went on to join Harare Sports Club before moving to the Sharks Academy system in Durban, KwaZulu Natal where his talent improved to catch the eye of the Falcons.

However, the flyhalf — together with a host of other foreign-based players — is expected in the country in time for the Sables camp that gets underway on Monday where Bulawayo-based players are also expected to join camp.

Having failed to raise enough money to play international friendly games in their preparations for the Africa Cup/World Cup qualifiers set for Madagascar in a fortnight’s time, the Sables will hold a 10-day camp.

The Zimbabwe Rugby Union have secured the services of former Springbok World Cup winning tight head prop Balie Swart, who will work with the Sables forwards for three days prior, to the departure for the African tournament.

“The Zimbabwe Rugby Union is pleased to announce that the Sables have received a welcome boost ahead of their training camp for the Rugby World Cup qualifiers and are grateful to the IRB for their assistance in facilitating this,” the ZRu said in a statement.
