Leopards attack livestock

Muleya said eight villagers in his area had lost livestock including donkeys, goats, sheep and cattle to either lions or leopards. He said buffaloes and elephants were also a threat to crops at the 65-hectare irrigation scheme.
Chituripasi area, which is along the Limpopo River, borders Kruger National Park in South Africa. According to villagers, the wild animals are targeting goats and cattle.
“I have lost six cattle to these leopards and we are also living in fear of being attacked.
“We have notified our traditional leaders on the issue and hope that a lasting solution will be found soon,” said Mr Peter Mbedzi.
Another villager from the same area, Mr Given Sibanda, said he had lost two goats to the leopards. He said the community had since notified the local councillor for Ward 1 about the marauding leopards.
“The community has been living in fear of attack by straying wild animals from the park. Stray hyenas and lions attacked our livestock while elephants from the same park destroyed our crops,” he said.
