MEMBERS of Leos Club of Wankie Lwendulu last week donated two artificial hands to the disabled during their one-year celebration held in Hwange.
The club is made up of people between the ages of 18 and 31 who work for charity in their respective communities.
The club’s main objectives are to help the societies and to improve the living conditions of disadvantaged people in communities.
The immediate past president of Leo Club, Mr Felix Tsvipira said, “We are giving back to the community and we identify those individuals who need help then we fund them or donate whatever they need.”
He said the artificial hands were bought in the United States of America.
“The first hand was donated to Blessing Ncube a 10-year-old girl who was born without some limbs and she will be able to write at school like any other pupils,” he said.
Another artificial hand was donated to a former bus driver Mr Enoch Ndebele who lost his hand in a bus accident.
“Mr Ndebele is now able to drive using both hands, the original and artificial hand,” said Mr Tsvipira.
He said it was not their first time to donate artificial hands as they once donated to a xenophobia victim, Frank Ncube.
The Leos and Lions club members are also working on reviving the Hwange Colliery Library which has been closed for more than five years.
The Lions Club is made up of people who are above the age of 31.
Mr Tsvipira said they have started collecting text books for the library.
