A delegation from Lesotho’s Ministry of Information, Communication, Science and Technology today toured the Zimpapers digital newsroom in Harare on a fact-finding visit aimed at modernising their national media operations.
The team, made up of officials from the country’s National Broadcasting Services, senior editors and managers, is seeking to integrate separate government newspaper, broadcasting and news agency units into one streamlined, multimedia newsroom.

The visit comes as Zimpapers recently successfully combined print, radio, television and online platforms under the digital-first newsroom structure.
Lesotho National Broadcasting Services Director-General Mrs Thato Nkhahle said the visit was part of a government-mandated transformation programme to understand how converged newsrooms operate in practice.

“We are in the process of transforming our broadcasting model and have been tasked to establish a converged newsroom. We currently run three separate newsrooms and came to see how an integrated system works,” she said.
During the tour, the delegation observed how Zimpapers produces content simultaneously for print, radio, television and digital platforms, supported by shared workflows, modern content management systems and continuous staff training.

Mrs Nkhahle described the experience as an eye-opener, noting that the team had gained practical lessons on newsroom structure, training needs and the importance of strong management systems to support digital operations.
The delegation is expected to use insights from the Zimpapers model to guide reforms and strengthen media efficiency back home.
