IT’S deeply troubling to witness the growing prevalence of drug and substance abuse among the youth in Bulawayo, especially with the emergence of backyard alcohol, commonly known as njengu, as a contributing factor.
The impact of this trend on the future of our young people cannot be overstated. Substance abuse not only jeopardises their physical and mental well-being but also undermines their potential to lead productive and fulfilling lives. As a community, we must come together to address this pressing issue.

We need to prioritise education and awareness campaigns to highlight the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse and provide support systems for those who may be struggling. Additionally, there is a crucial need for the implementation of policies and interventions aimed at curbing the production and distribution of backyard alcohol and other harmful substances.
By taking proactive measures and fostering a supportive environment, we can work towards safeguarding the well-being and future of our youth, empowering them to make informed choices and pursue opportunities that lead to a brighter future.
