FORMER Mighty Warriors star, Rudo Neshamba, said women’s achievements should be celebrated in the same vein as their male counterparts.
Neshamba played a huge role to help the Mighty Warriors qualify for the Olympics in Brazil in 2016.
Recently, she was unveiled as a developmental coach at Real Betis Academy.
“Women’s Month is for celebrating the achievements of women, the vital role they play in our society in general, and seeking gender equality,” she said.
“As for the representation of women in sports, particularly football, women’s football is viewed as a movement set to challenge the status quo.
“It is not, it is a career for most of us.
“Improving media coverage and marketing women’s sports can help give the community education that women can be equally good and we should celebrate women’s sports the same way we celebrate men’s, which can help change the stereotypes.”
Neshamba said she was grateful to her family, and community, for supporting her from day one.
She urged other budding young footballers to also take education seriously.
“My family and community have always been supportive, they haven’t changed since.
“My words to the young girls out there, who look up to me , are that as much as playing football is fun, education is equally important, whether you are academically gifted or not.
“It will help you make informed decisions in the future.”
